Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore

What's so special about the 22 of August 2022? 

Apparently it's National Tooth Fairy Day and Be An Angel Day apart from many other interesting days (https://nationaltoday.com/august-22-holidays/). But the most important one for us is of course: Avinya's liftoff!

Apart from it being a monumentally special day for the small team of us behind the scenes, it essentially helped us share with everyone our deep, unreserved passion for ensuring kids have an opportunity to aspire for the future they so deserve.

We are excited to be able to share with you our thoughts and progress as we start our public journey, out of the shadows and heading upwards on the 'yellow brick road'!

A few key things as we look back on this commemorative week:

  • We now have 98 members and counting in our discussion group forum. Thank you for all your posts, questions, encouraging comments, suggestions and engagement with us. It's been refreshing and empowering to start and continue conversations on things so close to our hearts in the secondary education space in Sri Lanka.   • We have had several offers for financial support, so we have added a separate email for those of you who would like to donate: donations@avinyafoundation.org
  • We are in the initial stages of looking at translating our website and some other content to Sinhala and Tamil. If there are any volunteers for translation please do reach out to us.
  • The support has been amazing and we are very keen to keep the momentum going as we head into the final few months of 2022 to get things set up and going for the launch of our first ever Avinya School in January 2023.

Hello dear readers, Graduation day had finally arrived, and it was nothing short of a massive success in all our eyes! As each student proudly received their certificates, the homeroom teachers shared heartfelt one-liners that echoed the unique journey each student had taken at Avinya. In true Avinya fashion, we faced a few hiccups here and there (we perhaps should not have put our Executive Directress in a saree on this important day) but all in all it was a beautiful day that showcased the culmination of hard work and dedication from the first batch of the Empower program. Vocational Magic in the Works #45

Greetings dear readers, I’ve taken the floor yet again, collaborating with a couple of educators to document another eventful week at Avinya! The week commenced with a burst of excitement as intriguing developments unfolded in all three vocational areas. Vidushi and Dee have some wonderful thoughts to share with us about them! A highlight this week was the Jetwing training which spanned three days. During the three days the students explored what is unique about being in the hospitality industry paying special attention to the importance of quality service. They also worked in teams to explore difficult situations that could occur in their day to day workplace through role plays and had a lively discussion on the importance of feedback and how to take direction. The most important aspect was enlightening the students on the variety of options and departments that lie in the hospitality industry and how important it is to choose what suits your personality the best.
