Curveballs, Grit and Action Stations #23

“It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.” – Albert Einstein This week I’d like to open with this quote because it’s been an interesting week full of curveballs and some unique challenges. I chose this particular quote because it encapsulates the essence of how we at Avinya have worked through, dodged, jumped over and finally floated over some challenging curve balls.  Instead of feeling overwhelmed, we embraced the problems, chewed on them, evaluated them from different angles and finally put our heads together and looked at practical solutions. Reflecting on this week, despite everything we’ve had a week full of productive fun and some good old fashioned teamwork. That’s what I love about Avinya. No one says, ‘that’s not my job’, it’s usually an overwhelming surge of ‘how can I help?’   I feel there needs to be a drum roll before you read on. Cue drum roll! We will officially start bringing in our students next week in groups for introductory and orient

Uniforms, Norming, Storming, Performing and Roofs #22

Let’s start with uniforms this week.  We gave out our first set of uniforms to our enrolled students this week. Let me tell you that the sheer look of happiness on everyone’s faces, parents and students, could only be compared with our excitement to teach them and empower them through the curriculum and learning experience that awaits. "It's a great feeling for me just to put my uniform on and be part of my team." - Johan Santana The room was buzzing with excitement and the Educator team smoothly toggled from interviews to uniform distribution to record keeping. As I looked around at the team, all I could think of was that I was so happy and proud to be a part of such a great team. I’m sure you would remember a few months ago from the blogs how our wonderful Educator team was only a hope away. Now, they are a reality and we couldn’t have asked for a better team. Like that our full student Recipe 120 is only a hope away and we can’t wait to see this become a reality! Here’

GTKY, Inspiring reads and Karapincha (#21)

This week, has been a lot of fun and I will tell you why - very simple, GTKY.   GTKY = Get To Know You.  That’s exactly what our Educator team has been busy doing apart from interviewing, workshops and onboarding students. They have been spending time getting to know their students.  We’ve divided the students enrolled so far into classes now and the whole Educator team is working very hard to ensure they have a good understanding of not only their future class but each and every Avinya Academy student! Every student matters! “Let us remember: one book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world." - Malala Yousafzai From Educators to our brilliant Technology team - They have been very busy this week. I look up at our whiteboard as I write this and I see a heap of diagrams and then a whole lot of acronyms. Some are now familiar to me MDM (Mobile Device Management) and BFF (Backend for Frontend). There are also new ones I need to learn 🙂 Baby steps I tell myself. Als

Hello 2023 (#20)

As the sun rises on another new year, 2023 holds the morning breeze of hope and dewdrops of anticipation. We take a deep breath, count to ten and leap… What’s on the other side? Only time will tell :) How did you ring in the new year? Did you party to the hilt or like me did you prefer a more low key celebration? The Avinya team had a mix of both and are now raring to go as we take a deep breath, count to ten and leap with anticipation, passion and purpose into this new year of hope! We started off this week, with interviews down in Bandaragama. This is now slowly becoming our second home for our team of Educators. They have interesting anecdotes and stories to share and have thoroughly enjoyed not only the interviews but the workshops with our students. We are close to filling up our fourth class now so Recipe 120 has officially passed the halfway mark and then some.  We have lots to do on the Operations side as we head into a very critical phase to get things kicked off.
